Are all these stories true?
Yes, they are as true as possible to my own memories, which god forgive me those high school years that I seemed to have pushed out of my brain.
Is that your real name?
No, nor are any of the names in the stories. This is primarily for the privacy of all people involved. Also, I’d prefer my online presence associated with my real name to stay associated with my career and not my relationships.
When I was a kid, I hated my name. It sounded so boring to me and people were always spelling it wrong. I wanted a name that was epic and romantic. ‘Alexandra’ struck me as fulfilling those requirements. And thusly, Alexandra is my alter ego/pseudonym.
Why do you call them ‘the One Who…?’
I am mocking the notion that there is a ‘One’ person of all the seven billion humans that live on this planet who could possibly be my soulmate. I am mocking the notion of even having a soulmate.
Are you just hating on people that are committed/married?
I have many friends who are in committed relationships and/or are married. Sometimes I hate them because I feel so lonely, but that is because I am idealizing the companionship they have found. Their lives aren’t perfect and neither is mine. They feel lonely too when they don’t connect with their partners in the way they hope to, that’s part of being human. When I tell my dating stories, sometimes my committed friends will feel a twinge of jealousy or insecurity that they didn’t date enough people before they settled with just the one person. Having dated only one person is okay, having dated a few dozen (or more) is okay too. No one person’s experience is more right or more wrong than someone else’s. It’s just the experience that you have and you figure it out from there.
How often do you update?
I post a new story every Wednesday. My opinion-related posts and link roundups are once or twice a week.
Who draws the portraits?
I draw them! I draw on a tablet with a stylus using a wonderful app called Sketchbook Pro.
